Points

S Broker is the online broker of the Sparkassen Finance Group, operated by S Broker AG & Co. KG, based in Wiesbaden. We rated the securities custody account out of 100 points using the kosten.org custody account methodology; the company's CFD offerings are left out because the securities custody account is its main business. The basis is exclusively the provider's price overview and its schedule of prices and services (Preis- und Leistungsverzeichnis) in the version valid from 1 July 2026.

Highlights of our S Broker review

  • S Broker scores 85 out of 100 points in our review.
  • Since the 2026 price reform, custody has been unconditionally free of charge.
  • The instant order costs a flat 0.95 euros including the trading venue fee.
  • All share, ETF and certificate savings plans are free of charge, and the minimum instalment is 5 euros.

1 Custody account fee

20/20
Points
S Broker fundamentally changed its pricing model on 1 July 2026. According to the price and services overview, custody is free of charge – with no minimum order volume, no minimum number of trades and without the link to an active custody account that used to be usual. No minimum holding is required either. A Sparkasse current account is not required to open a custody account. S Broker holds its own settlement account for the custody account, which is also held free of charge; an account at any bank can be specified as the reference account. Anyone who is already a Sparkasse customer therefore does not need to switch their existing account, but does not have to open one either. Scoring (20/20): The custody account fee is waived without any condition (15/15). An additional current account is not necessary because the settlement account belongs to the custody account (5/5).

2 Trading costs

23/25
Points
The price overview has two order models. For the instant order via the connected trading partner, each order costs a flat 0.95 euros, with the trading venue fee already included. A one-off investment of 500 euros therefore costs 0.95 euros. With free choice of trading venue, S Broker charges a base fee of 0.95 euros plus 0.25 per cent of the market value (maximum 54.99 euros) plus the trading venue fee; for Xetra, 2.45 euros is added. Savings plan executions on shares, ETFs and certificates are free of charge. An ETF savings plan of 400 euros therefore costs 0.00 euros – regardless of which ETF you choose. Trading on Xetra is possible without restriction via the free choice of trading venue. Scoring (23/25): The 400-euro ETF savings plan is free (12/12). At 0.95 euros, the 500-euro one-off investment costs just under one euro and therefore reaches the second band, not full marks (8/10). Xetra is tradable (3/3).

3 Savings plan offering

18/20
Points
On its ETF savings plan page, S Broker shows more than 2,500 savings-plan-eligible ETFs. Since all ETF savings plan executions are free of charge, the number of free savings plans is practically identical to the number offered – unlike at providers that make only a promotional selection free. The minimum savings amount is 5 euros per execution. That is workable in everyday use but not the finest gradation on the market: for very small instalments, for example when saving into many positions in parallel or with children's savings plans, brokers with a 1-euro instalment are more flexible. Scoring (18/20): More than 2,500 ETF savings plans are in the top band (8/8), as are the free savings plans (7/7). The minimum savings amount of 5 euros only reaches the middle band of up to 10 euros (3/5).

4 Product range

14/15
Points
According to the information on S Broker's product pages, more than 30,000 shares, more than 2,700 ETFs and more than 13,700 funds are tradable. In addition there are bonds as well as certificates and leveraged products, which can be reached via the connected off-exchange trading partners and the floor exchanges. S Broker does not offer crypto assets – neither as a direct purchase nor via crypto ETPs. Anyone who wants to hold Bitcoin or Ether in the same custody account will find no solution here and needs a second provider. Scoring (14/15): More than 2,700 ETFs are above the 2,000 threshold (6/6), more than 30,000 shares well above the 7,500 threshold (6/6). Of the three additional classes, only derivatives and bonds are available; crypto is missing (2/3).

5 Interest & extras

0/8
Points
S Broker's settlement account earns 0.00 per cent interest. Within the custody account relationship, balances can be transferred to the separate KontoPlus, which according to the price overview earns 1.50 per cent p.a. (as of September 2026). The price overview lists the two items separately, so KontoPlus is an account of its own and not interest on the settlement account. We could not find a new-customer bonus for opening a custody account on the provider's promotion pages. The reward of 100 euros from the refer-a-customer programme expressly goes to the referring existing customer, not to the new customer, and therefore does not count as a new-customer bonus under our methodology. Scoring (0/8): What is rated is the interest on the settlement account, and that is 0.00 per cent (0/5). We do not count the separately funded KontoPlus. There is no new-customer bonus (0/3).

6 Usability

6/8
Points
S Broker offers apps for iOS and Android as well as a web interface with order book, watchlists and a model portfolio. The iOS app gets 4.49 stars from around 1,140 ratings, the Android app 4.2 stars from around 692 ratings (as of September 2026). Both figures are therefore below the methodology's 4.5-star threshold. S Broker provides real-time prices for the connected trading venues free of charge; a paid price subscription is not required for standard use. That is not a given for brokers with a branch-bank background. Scoring (6/8): Apps for both platforms are available, but ratings are not consistently 4.5 stars or higher (3/5). Free real-time prices are available (3/3).

7 Customer service & security

4/4
Points
Telephone customer service can be reached on the Wiesbaden landline number 0611 2044-1911, Monday to Friday from 8am to 11pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 7pm. No premium-rate service number is used. This availability at weekends too is an exception in the custody account comparison. S Broker is a German institution under BaFin supervision; securities are special assets (Sondervermögen) and do not form part of the insolvency estate, and balances in the settlement account are covered by statutory deposit protection (Einlagensicherung). Scoring (4/4): Free telephone support via a landline number is available (4/4).

Conclusion: S Broker review

85/100
Very good (1.8)

With 85 out of 100 points, S Broker has become significantly more competitive after the 2026 price reform: free custody, 0.95-euro orders and a completely fee-free savings plan offering. The interest and extras chapter remains weak, because the settlement account earns no interest and there is no new-customer bonus. The custody account suits investors who want a German institution with long service hours and can do without crypto.
