Dating Apps 2026: The Big Comparison for Germany
Looking for a partner now happens mostly online. Millions of people in Germany use dating apps or matchmaking sites. But the choice of platforms is huge: from quick swiping on Tinder, via the women-friendly Bumble, to scientific matchmaking at Parship – there is an app for every wish.
Our comparison analyses the 8 most popular dating apps in Germany by cost, user numbers, matching method and safety. Whether you are looking for a long-term relationship or simply want to meet new people, we help you make the right choice.
Did you know?
According to a Bitkom study (Germany’s digital industry association), one in three couples in Germany met online. Among under-30s it is even over 50%. The average time spent on a dating app before the first date is 2–3 weeks.
What should you look for in dating apps?
Choosing the right dating app depends on five key criteria:
- User base: The more active users, the better your chances. Tinder and Lovoo are among the apps with the most profiles in Germany; however, providers rarely publish their user numbers, and not consistently. A large user base matters most in rural areas.
- Matching method: Tinder relies on looks (swiping), Parship and ElitePartner use scientific personality tests, and OkCupid uses a question system. The method has a considerable influence on the quality of your matches.
- Cost structure: All apps offer free basic features. Premium subscriptions range from 7.99 € (Lovoo) to approx. 24.90 €/month (ElitePartner). Beware: low monthly fees often require annual subscriptions.
- Target group: Tinder and Lovoo appeal more to 18–35-year-olds, while Parship and ElitePartner are aimed at 28–55-year-olds looking for a committed partnership. Bumble sits in between.
- Safety & privacy: Verified profiles, ID checks and GDPR compliance are essential. Bumble offers photo verification, Parship is TÜV-certified (German technical inspection body), and Lovoo is a German app with EU servers.
The best dating apps in detail
Tinder: the best-known swipe app
Tinder is the best-known swipe app and offers a very large choice of profiles, especially in cities. The swiping principle is simple and fun. It is less suited to a serious search for a partner – but ideal for meeting people and flirting. From 9.99 €/month you get premium features such as unlimited swiping and Super Likes.
Bumble: women are in control
Bumble stands out with a unique concept: only women can make the first move. This drastically reduces unwanted messages and creates a respectful environment. Besides dating, Bumble also offers BFF (finding friends) and Bizz (networking). From 16.99 €/month it is a modern alternative to Tinder.
Parship: scientifically to happiness
Parship is one of the best-known platforms for serious matchmaking in Germany. A 136-question personality test forms the basis for scientifically grounded partner suggestions. That comes at a price: from approx. 17.90 €/month on a 24-month term; Stiftung Warentest documents roughly 29.95 €/month for 12 months – considerably more on a shorter term. Parship only shows prices after registration, and they vary by profile.
ElitePartner: for graduates and the well-educated
ElitePartner targets graduates and well-educated singles. Over 70% of members have a university degree. Matching is based on a scientific personality test and delivers high-quality suggestions. At approx. 24.90 €/month it is the most expensive provider – the investment is worthwhile for singles who value educational level.
Costs & prices: what do dating apps cost?
Monthly costs for dating apps vary widely – from 7.99 € to 24.90 €:
| App | Price/month | Target group | Free basic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lovoo | 7.99 € | 18–35 years | ✅ |
| Tinder | 9.99 € | 18–35 years | ✅ |
| OkCupid | 9.99 € | 22–40 years | ✅ |
| Bumble | 16.99 € | 22–40 years | ✅ |
| Parship | approx. 17.90 € * | 28–55 years | ✅ |
| LoveScout24 | 19.90 € | 25–55 years | ✅ |
| Hinge | 19.99 € | 23–36 years | ✅ |
| ElitePartner | approx. 24.90 € * | 28–55 (graduates) | ✅ |
Important: the low monthly fees usually apply only on an annual or 24-month term. On short terms (e.g. 6 months) the monthly price at Parship and ElitePartner is considerably higher. For Parship, ElitePartner and the swipe apps you usually only see the current prices after registration or in the app – they depend in part on term, age and promotions.
* Parship: from approx. 17.90 €/month only on a 24-month term (comparison sites); for 12 months Stiftung Warentest documents roughly 29.95 €/month, and short terms cost up to around 59.90 €/month. ElitePartner: indicative figure from comparison sites, not verifiable on the provider's own site. Both providers show prices only after registration, and they vary by profile.
Casual dating vs. serious partner search
- Casual dating (Tinder, Lovoo, Bumble): Quick introductions, relaxed contacts, flirting. A large pool of users, but many non-committal contacts. Ideal for anyone who is open and wants to see what happens.
- Serious matchmaking (Parship, ElitePartner, Hinge): Scientifically grounded matching, higher costs, but better-quality contacts. Ideal for anyone looking for a committed partnership.
- All-rounders (LoveScout24, OkCupid): A mix of casual and serious. Flexible use for different intentions. Often good value for money.
Practical tip
Start by using the free versions of several apps in parallel to get a feel for the user base and the matching. Only once you have found the right app is a premium subscription worthwhile. Avoid hasty annual subscriptions.
Safety & privacy in dating apps
Dating apps process particularly sensitive personal data. Pay attention to the following safety criteria:
- Profile verification: Bumble and LoveScout24 offer photo verification and ID checks respectively. This reduces fake profiles considerably.
- GDPR compliance: German apps (Lovoo, Parship, ElitePartner) are subject to strict German data protection. US apps such as Tinder and Bumble store some data on US servers.
- Profile visibility: Check whether your profile is visible to everyone or only to matches. Parship and ElitePartner offer more control here.
- Cancellation: Check the notice periods before signing up. Parship and ElitePartner in particular have been criticised in the past for difficult cancellation. Good to know: for contracts concluded since 1 March 2022, after the initial term a subscription may only renew for an indefinite period and can then be cancelled at any time with at most one month’s notice (section 309 no. 9 of the German Civil Code, BGB). Since 1 July 2022, online providers must also provide a cancellation button (section 312k BGB).
