Points

quirion is the digital asset manager of Quirin Privatbank and one of the oldest robo-advisors in Germany. We examined quirion under our robo-advisor methodology, which assesses total costs, investment strategy, transparency and access – not order fees, because a digital asset management service does not execute customer-side orders. The earlier rating under the depot methodology was therefore replaced.

Highlights of our quirion review

  • quirion scores 91/100 points in our rating.
  • The service fee in the Digital package is 0.48% p.a., plus around 0.17% p.a. in ETF costs (as of September 2026).
  • quirion publishes monthly factsheets with performance after costs; data goes back to January 2014.
  • 22 investment strategies with equity shares from 0 to 100 percent in ten-percentage-point steps.

1 Costs

28/32
Points
In the Digital package, quirion charges a service fee of 0.48% p.a. on assets under management. The Premium package with additional advice costs 0.84% p.a. For new customers, a depot volume of up to €10,000 is exempt from the service fee in the first year, equivalent to a saving of up to €48. We assessed the standard offer, i.e. the Digital package. quirion puts the product costs of the ETFs used at around 0.17% p.a. Total costs are therefore around 0.65% p.a. – one of the lowest figures in the German robo-advisor market. Transaction costs, depot fees and front-end loads do not apply, and quirion charges no performance-based fee. Changing strategy is also free of charge. Scoring (28/32): The service fee of 0.48% p.a. falls in the "≤ 0.60%" category and earns 12 out of 16 points. The ETF costs of 0.17% p.a. are below 0.20% and give the full 10 points. Since no transaction costs and no performance fee apply, there are the full 6 points for other costs.

2 Investment strategy

22/25
Points
quirion offers 22 investment strategies with equity shares from 0 to 100 percent in ten-percentage-point steps, each in a global and a sustainable variant. The investment approach draws on the capital market research of Eugene Fama and deliberately forgoes forecasts. Each strategy uses 13 ETFs, investing in more than 8,000 shares and almost 2,000 bonds. Other asset classes such as commodities or property are not part of the standard portfolio. Before investing, quirion determines the personal risk-return profile via a questionnaire and assigns the appropriate strategy. The rebalancing rules are publicly documented: the comparison with the target allocation takes place at least annually and additionally whenever a position deviates from its target weight by more than 10 percent. Implementation is automatic and free of charge. Scoring (22/25): The investment universe covers shares and bonds worldwide but no further asset classes – that gives 7 out of 10 points. The detailed questionnaire with far more than five risk levels brings the full 8 points. For automatic rebalancing with publicly documented rules (at least annually, plus on deviations of over 10 percent) we award the full 7 points.

3 Transparency & track record

18/18
Points
quirion provides monthly factsheets showing the performance of the strategies after costs over various periods; the data series goes back to January 2014. That gives an after-cost track record per risk level over far more than three years – the yardstick our methodology requires, and quirion meets it in full. The ETFs used are named in a publicly accessible FAQ section, so investors can form a picture of the specific portfolio before signing a contract. The cost side shows the service fee and ETF costs together, so the total cost ratio is visible without any calculation. Scoring (18/18): Performance per risk level after costs over more than three years brings the full 8 points. As the funds used are publicly viewable, we award the full 6 points for portfolio disclosure. The total cost ratio including product costs is visible at a glance, which gives the full 4 points. quirion is thus the only provider in the rating field with a full score in this chapter.

4 Access & flexibility

13/15
Points
The entry hurdle at quirion is practically non-existent: a one-off investment is possible from €1, and a savings plan from €25 a month. That makes quirion one of the most accessible providers in our rating. There is no minimum term or notice period, and partial withdrawals are possible at any time. The chosen strategy can be adjusted at any time via a slider in the dashboard – with no waiting time and no fee. We could not verify a freely selectable execution rhythm for the savings plan, however; monthly execution is documented. Scoring (13/15): The minimum investment of €1 is clearly below €500 and brings the full 6 points. The savings plan from €25 meets the minimum instalment, but a freely selectable rhythm cannot be verified – for that there are 3 out of 5 points. Cancellation that is free at any time, with partial withdrawals, gives the full 4 points.

5 Security & service

10/10
Points
quirion is a wholly owned subsidiary of Quirin Privatbank AG, which also acts as custodian bank and is subject to BaFin supervision. Customer securities are held as segregated assets and are protected in an insolvency. quirion thus meets the strictest level of our security criterion: a German custodian bank plus German supervision. An app is available in the usual app stores and allows full management of the investment, including strategy changes; a web portal is available in parallel. Customer service can be reached in German via a hotline, online chat, email and contact form and scored above average in independent service tests. Scoring (10/10): A German custodian bank and a BaFin permit give the full 5 points. An app for iOS and Android plus a web portal bring the full 3 points. Phone advice in German gives the full 2 points.

Pros & cons at a glance

  • Very low service fee of 0.48% p.a. in the Digital package
  • Performance after costs per strategy documented since 2014 in monthly factsheets
  • Entry from a €1 one-off investment or a €25 savings instalment
  • Publicly documented rebalancing rules with a clear deviation threshold
  • Strategy change free of charge at any time via a slider in the dashboard

Cons

  • Investment universe limited to shares and bonds, no commodities or property
  • The Premium package costs 0.84% p.a., considerably more than the Digital package
  • A freely selectable savings plan rhythm is not documented, only monthly execution is verified
  • The new-customer fee waiver applies only in the first year and only up to €10,000

Conclusion: quirion review

91/100
Very good (1.4)

quirion scores 91 out of 100 points and is therefore the best-rated robo-advisor in our comparison. The combination of a low service fee, an after-cost track record documented since 2014 and a practically non-existent entry hurdle is currently unmatched in the market. Anyone looking for a broader investment universe with commodities should look at bevestor or Oskar.
