About growney
growney GmbH was founded in Berlin in December 2014 by Gerald Klein, who had previously worked at Landesbank Berlin for around 17 years. growney has its own BaFin permit (BaFin is the German financial regulator), including for financial portfolio management, and on that basis manages broadly diversified ETF portfolios for private and corporate clients; it also arranges overnight and fixed-term deposits. growney is not a bank itself and therefore has no deposit protection (Einlagensicherung) of its own: the depot and settlement account run at partner banks – according to growney.de (security page, 10/2026) client money is held at Deutsche Bank, Hamburg's Sutor Bank and the Dutch ABN AMRO; growney does not mention any infrastructure change there. Balances in the settlement account are covered by the statutory deposit protection of the institution holding the account up to €100,000, and the ETF units in the depot are segregated assets that remain the investors' property if growney or the partner bank becomes insolvent.
