81/100
Points

Evergreen is a digital asset manager from Leipzig with a BaFin permit for financial portfolio management under section 32 of the German Banking Act (KWG) that uses exclusively in-house sustainable retail funds rather than third-party ETFs. We rated Evergreen under our robo-advisor methodology. The earlier rating under the depot methodology was not appropriate, as Evergreen charges no order fees and offers no broker savings plan selection.

Highlights of our Evergreen review

  • Evergreen scores 81/100 points in our rating.
  • There is no separate service fee: all costs are contained in the fund TER of around 0.79% p.a. for the classic strategies (as of September 2026).
  • Entry is possible from €1 with no minimum investment, and there are no notice periods.
  • The funds used are publicly viewable with ISINs, for example the Evergreen Sustainable World Bonds R (DE000A3DQ2W9).

1 Costs

22/32
Points
Evergreen follows an unusual cost model: there is no separate service fee, no management fee and no transaction costs. All costs are charged directly within the in-house funds. For the classic investment strategies Komfort, Balance and Wachstum, the total expense ratio (TER) is around 0.79% p.a., and for the ZinsPockets 0.39% p.a. This leads to a scoring effect that we disclose: because Evergreen genuinely charges nothing at the service fee level, the provider gets the full score there, but loses the points on product costs entirely, because the TER of 0.79% p.a. is above the 0.50% threshold. In total, the result matches economic reality: at around 0.79% p.a. all-in, Evergreen is in the middle of the field – cheaper than Ginmon (around 0.96%) and Whitebox (around 1.18%), more expensive than quirion (around 0.65%). Scoring (22/32): Since no separate service fee is charged, we award the full 16 points here. The fund TER of 0.79% p.a. is above 0.50% and gives 0 out of 10 points. Because neither transaction costs nor a performance fee apply, there are the full 6 points for other costs.

2 Investment strategy

19/25
Points
Evergreen offers around 13 broadly diversified portfolios in three strategy worlds: Komfort aims at capital preservation with moderate performance, Balance combines growth and security components, and Wachstum prioritises return potential with higher volatility. Unlike ETF-based competitors, Evergreen invests exclusively in its own funds, which are managed on ESG criteria and invest in shares and bonds worldwide. Allocation is done through risk profiling in onboarding. Because the allocation within the in-house funds is actively managed, ongoing adjustment takes place; however, Evergreen does not publish a classic rebalancing rulebook documented with thresholds. Scoring (19/25): The investment universe covers shares and bonds worldwide but no independent further asset classes – that gives 7 out of 10 points. Risk profiling with well over five portfolios across three strategy worlds brings the full 8 points. For rebalancing, automatic management within the funds is verified, but publicly documented trigger rules are missing; we award 4 out of 7 points.

3 Transparency & track record

18/18
Points
Because Evergreen works with its own retail funds, performance is particularly easy to check: fund prices are updated every exchange day. The longest available track record covers 77 months for the Komfort strategy, and the Balance and Wachstum portfolios show an observation period of 41 months (January 2023 to May 2026). That gives evidence over more than three years per strategy; since these are fund prices, costs have already been deducted. The funds used are publicly viewable with ISINs, for example the Evergreen Sustainable World Bonds R (DE000A3DQ2W9) and the Tomorrow Fund R (DE000A2QK5D4). The cost presentation is the simplest in the entire rating field: there is only a single cost component, the fund TER. Scoring (18/18): Performance per strategy over more than three years after costs brings the full 8 points. Full disclosure of the funds used with ISINs gives the full 6 points. As the total cost ratio consists of a single figure and can therefore be grasped at a glance, there are the full 4 points.

4 Access & flexibility

13/15
Points
Evergreen requires no minimum investment, and an investment is possible from €1. That puts the provider, together with quirion and UnitPlus, among the most accessible in our rating. Savings plans can be set up from small amounts. There are no notice periods, the depot can be closed at any time, and partial withdrawals are possible. Since Evergreen works with retail funds that can be traded daily, liquidity is structurally in place. We could not verify a freely selectable savings plan rhythm. Scoring (13/15): Entry with no minimum investment brings the full 6 points. For the savings plan, the minimum instalment is low, but a freely selectable execution rhythm is not documented – for that there are 3 out of 5 points. Cancellation at any time with no notice period, with possible partial withdrawals, gives the full 4 points.

5 Security & service

9/10
Points
Evergreen GmbH has BaFin's permit for financial portfolio management under section 32 KWG and is licensed as a securities institution. The company also acts as asset manager of its own funds, which are held as segregated assets. Its registered office and supervision are entirely in Germany. An app is available for iOS and Android, supplemented by web access. On customer service, however, we could not find a published German-language phone number for advice – support via the app, email and an FAQ section can be verified. We therefore award only the minimum score for this sub-aspect. Scoring (9/10): A BaFin permit as a financial portfolio manager and German structure give the full 5 points. An app for iOS and Android plus web access bring the full 3 points. Since phone advice cannot be verified, only email and app support, we award just 1 out of 2 points for customer service.

Pros & cons at a glance

Pros

  • No separate service fee, no transaction costs, no performance fee
  • Only a single cost component – the most transparent cost presentation in the rating field
  • No minimum investment amount, entry from €1 and closing at any time with no notice period
  • Funds used publicly viewable with ISINs, fund prices every exchange day
  • BaFin permit for financial portfolio management, German registered office in Leipzig

Cons

  • Exclusively in-house funds rather than widely available third-party ETFs, hence concentration risk with the provider
  • No verifiable phone advice in German
  • Balance and Wachstum strategies have only a short track record at 41 months
  • No publicly documented rebalancing rules with thresholds

Conclusion: Evergreen review

81/100
Very good (1.9)

Evergreen scores 81 out of 100 points and wins points with a radically simple cost model, full fund transparency and the lowest entry level in our rating. The price for this is a comparatively high fund TER and dependence on exclusively in-house products. For investors who prioritise sustainability and a simple cost structure, Evergreen is a good choice; anyone looking for the lowest total costs is better off with quirion.
