1 Costs & plan model

15/20
Points
VIMpay Beginner is completely free: €0 annual fee, €0 replacement card, €0 account closure. No hidden costs. That is the best value for money – if you accept the severe limitations. For an upgrade to higher models (Basic, Comfort, Premium), identification fees (€5-15) and possibly annual fees apply. Scoring (15/20): Free, but the severe restrictions (€150 limit, domestic only) prevent full marks.

2 Cards & acceptance

4/15
Points
Only a virtual prepaid Mastercard – no physical card on the Beginner model (a physical card only from VIMpayGo for €15). The card works with Apple Pay and Google Pay but is restricted to domestic payments. No IBAN. Scoring (4/15): Apple/Google Pay is a plus, but virtual card only, no IBAN, domestic payments only.

3 Financial education & pedagogy

0/15
Points
No financial education features. No savings goals, no task system, no gamification. VIMpay is a pure payment tool. Scoring (0/15): No financial education of any kind.

4 App & usability

7/15
Points
The VIMpay app offers an account overview, push notifications on purchases, snooze mode (temporarily blocking the card) and individual limits. The app is functional but not designed for children. App rating approx. 3.8 stars. Scoring (7/15): Functional app with useful features such as snooze mode. Not child-friendly.

5 Security & parental controls

9/15
Points
Prepaid card with a maximum balance of €150 – the risk is inherently limited. Push notifications for every transaction. Snooze mode allows temporary card blocks. Individual limits can be set. No BaFin regulation as an e-money institution. Scoring (9/15): Good basic security thanks to the low balance limit. Push notifications and snooze mode. No BaFin.

6 Cash & payments

1/10
Points
No cash withdrawals possible on the Beginner model. No IBAN, no sending/receiving money. Top-up only via instant top-up (max. €50/24h). Monthly turnover limit: €150. Scoring (1/10): Severely restricted: no cash, no transfers, very low limits.

7 Customer service

2/5
Points
Email and app support. FAQ section available. No telephone support. Scoring (2/5): Limited support, but acceptable for a free product.

8 Extras & special features

2/5

Conclusion: VIMpay Young review

40/100
Satisfactory (4.0)

VIMpay Young scores 48 out of 100 points and is the minimal solution in the children's account comparison. It is completely free and available immediately – ideal as an entry for young children who are paying contactlessly for the first time. The severe restrictions (€150 limit, domestic only, no physical card) make it suitable only for very simple use cases, however. For a full financial companion for children, DKB, comdirect or Revolut are the better choice.
