Tomorrow is Germany's best-known sustainable bank and positions itself as "banking for a better future". Founded in Hamburg in 2018, Tomorrow invests customer money exclusively in sustainable projects and offsets CO₂ on every card payment. We review whether the green concept also convinces in everyday banking.

Highlights of our Tomorrow review

  • Tomorrow scores 70/100 points in our rating – strong impact, solid banking.
  • CO₂ offsetting on every card payment included.
  • Free current account available on the Change plan.
  • Sustainable investing and impact investing possible.

1 Account management

17/25
Points
The "Change" account is free – an important plus. The "Zero" account at €7 a month offsets the customer's entire CO₂ footprint. The "Together" account at €15 a month additionally offers impact investing. There is no overdraft – a deliberate decision to prevent over-indebtedness. For customers used to an overdraft, that is a drawback. Scoring (17/25): The free basic account is good. No overdraft is philosophically consistent, but in practice a deduction. Premium plans are somewhat expensive.

2 Card offer

10/15
Points
A Visa debit card is included on all plans. On the Zero and Together plans the card is also available made from recycled plastic. No girocard is available – at some German terminals (e.g. some discounters or car parks) this can be a problem. Apple Pay and Google Pay are supported. Scoring (10/15): The free Visa debit card is good. The missing girocard costs one point, but is becoming less and less relevant.

3 Cash withdrawals

10/20
Points
On the Change plan, 3 free cash withdrawals a month are possible at all Visa cash machines. On the Zero plan it is 5, on the Together plan unlimited. After that, every withdrawal costs €2. Cash cannot be deposited. Abroad, no additional fees in euros apply in eurozone countries. Scoring (10/20): Only 3 free withdrawals on the free plan is little. No cash deposits. At least fee-free in the eurozone.

4 Paying

6/8
Points
Apple Pay and Google Pay are fully supported. Contactless payment works worldwide. No foreign-currency fees apply in eurozone countries. Outside the eurozone, Tomorrow charges 1.5% – cheaper than most branch banks. Scoring (6/8): Good payment functions with fair foreign terms. Almost full marks.

5 Interest & saving

2/7
Points
There is no interest on balances in the current account. Instead, Tomorrow offers impact investing with the Together plan: money is invested in sustainable projects. Tomorrow does not offer traditional call money (instant-access savings) or fixed-term deposits. For return-oriented savers that is a drawback. Scoring (2/7): No interest offer in the traditional sense. Impact investing is a niche feature.

6 Banking app & features

8/10
Points
The Tomorrow app is modern, clear and, with 4.5 stars in the App Store, one of the best-rated banking apps. Features: categorisation of spending, CO₂ tracking per transaction, sub-accounts (pockets) and real-time notifications. Multibanking is missing, but the UX is excellent. Scoring (8/10): Excellent app with CO₂ tracking as a unique selling point. Deductions only for the missing multibanking.

7 Customer service

5/8
Points
Support can be reached by email and chat. Phone support is available on a limited basis. No branches. Response times to enquiries are good. Community engagement via the blog and social media. Scoring (5/8): Solid digital support, but no direct phone contact and no branches.

8 Security & extras

6/7
Points
Tomorrow works with Solarisbank, which holds a BaFin licence. Deposit protection of up to €100,000 via Solarisbank. The biggest "extra" is the sustainability promise: no investments in fossil energy, weapons or genetic engineering. B Corp certification. Scoring (6/7): Strong security through the Solarisbank licence. The sustainability concept is a unique extra.

Pros & cons at a glance

Pros

  • Sustainable banking with CO₂ offsetting
  • Excellent app (4.5 stars)
  • Free Change account
  • Impact investing possible

  • No overdraft

Conclusion: Tomorrow review

64/100
Good (2.8)

Tomorrow scores 70 out of 100 points and is the best choice for environmentally conscious bank customers. The app is among the best on the market and the sustainability concept is convincing. Anyone who needs traditional bank features such as an overdraft, call money or many free withdrawals will find more at ING or DKB.
