Revolut <18 is the children's account of the European neobank Revolut, which has more than 45 million customers worldwide. The offering is aimed at children and teenagers aged 6 to 17 and is designed as an additional function to the parents' Revolut account. In our review, we rate Revolut <18 using our children's account methodology.

Highlights of our Revolut <18 review

  • Revolut <18 scores 82/100 points – the best-rated children's account in our comparison.
  • Completely free to use with the parents' Standard account.
  • Kids & Teens app with 4.8 stars in the App Store – the best rating of all children's accounts.
  • Pay in euros free of charge worldwide, foreign currency from a 0.5% mark-up.

1 Costs & plan model

16/20
Points
The Revolut <18 account is included free of charge in the parents' Standard plan. There are no monthly fees, no account management costs and no card fees. The physical card is delivered for a one-off shipping fee (approx. €4.99), while the virtual card is available immediately and free of charge. Costs depend indirectly on the parents' plan: the Standard account is free, while Plus (€3.99/month) and Premium (€7.99/month) offer extended features. Cash withdrawals are limited depending on the parents' plan (€200 or 5 withdrawals/month free), after which 2% fees apply. Scoring (16/20): Excellent value for money: the children's account itself is free. Slight deductions for the dependence on the parents' plan and the shipping costs of the physical card.

2 Cards & acceptance

11/15
Points
Revolut <18 offers a customisable debit card that works worldwide wherever Visa or Mastercard is accepted (depending on region). The card supports contactless payment (NFC) and is compatible with Apple Pay and Google Pay. The child does not receive an IBAN of their own – deposits run via the parents' account. For older teenagers who need an IBAN for part-time jobs or transfers from grandparents, that is a disadvantage compared with DKB u18 or comdirect. Scoring (11/15): Worldwide card acceptance and mobile payment are top. The missing IBAN of its own and the dependence on the parents' account cost points.

3 Financial education & pedagogy

11/15
Points
Revolut offers a solid financial education package: parents can define tasks and set rewards. Children see their spending categorised in the app and can create savings goals with a progress display. From the age of 13, teenagers can also send money to other Revolut users. Particularly strong: Revolut automatically blocks certain merchant categories (alcohol, gambling, tobacco) for minors. This is a safety feature that also has educational value. Scoring (11/15): Good task system and savings goals. Not quite as playful and gamified as Bling, but solid and functional.

4 App & usability

14/15
Points
The Revolut Kids & Teens app is a standalone app for the child, separate from the parent app. With 4.8 stars in the Apple App Store (over 100,000 ratings), it has the best rating of all children's account apps in Germany. The app is modern and intuitive and offers balance, spending overview, savings goals and (from age 13) peer-to-peer payments. Parents manage everything through their regular Revolut app – no separate download needed. Scoring (14/15): Almost perfect app rating, standalone children's app, seamless integration into the parent app. Only a minimal deduction because the app was developed primarily in English and the German localisation still has room for improvement in places.

5 Security & parental controls

13/15
Points
Revolut <18 works on a credit-balance basis – overdrawing is ruled out. Parents receive push notifications for every transaction, can set daily/weekly limits and block the card instantly via the app. The automatic merchant category block for minors (alcohol, gambling etc.) is a unique safety feature. Online payments can be enabled or disabled separately. Revolut operates under a Lithuanian banking licence (Revolut Bank UAB) with EU deposit protection up to €100,000. Scoring (13/15): Excellent security features with automatic merchant blocking. EU deposit protection instead of German BaFin regulation prevents full marks.

6 Cash & payments

7/10
Points
Cash withdrawals are free to a limited extent depending on the parents' plan (Standard: €200/month), after which a 2% fee applies. Paying in euros is free worldwide, and for foreign currencies a 0.5% fee applies from €1,000/month – significantly cheaper than at most competitors. The children's account is topped up instantly at the touch of a button from the parents' account – no SEPA transfer needed. Automatic pocket money via standing order is easy to set up. Scoring (7/10): Good terms on payments, especially abroad. The limited free cash withdrawals and the missing IBAN of its own for external deposits cost points.

7 Customer service

4/5
Points
Support runs through the Revolut app via chat. There is no telephone support for Standard customers, but Premium customers receive priority service. The Help Center is extensive, although primarily in English. Scoring (4/5): Fast in-app chat, but no telephone support and limited German documentation.

8 Extras & special features

4/5
Points
Revolut offers interest on children's savings (depending on market conditions), customisable card designs and the ability to send money to friends from age 13. The seamless transition to a full Revolut account at 18 is a plus. Scoring (4/5): Strong extras such as savings interest and peer-to-peer payments. The Revolut ecosystem offers the best upgrade path in the long term.

Conclusion: Revolut <18 review

80/100
Very good (2.0)

The combination of free use, the best app rating and innovative safety features such as automatic merchant blocks is unique on the market.
