The Moneyfix® rent deposit from Deutsche Kautionskasse AG is one of the best-known deposit products in Germany – above all because it is sold through numerous Sparkassen (savings banks). Since autumn 2026, the provider has stated 4.4% of the deposit amount per year (from a €25 annual premium) – previously it was 5.5%.

Highlights of our Deutsche Kautionskasse review

  • Specialised in rent deposits since 2008

1 Costs & terms

Points
For the Moneyfix® rent deposit, Deutsche Kautionskasse charges private customers, according to kautionskasse.de/privatkunden (as of 10/2026), "only 4.4% of the deposit amount per year"; the page title states a premium "from €25/year". Until 09/2026 it still said 5.5% there. Converted to our comparison basis of a €900 deposit (three months' net rent at €300/month), that is €39.60 a year. Moneyfix is therefore just above DepositDirect (€37.80) and heysafe (€38.70) and below kautionsfrei.de (€42.30). For small deposits, the minimum premium of €25 applies. Scoring (16/30): Transparent, officially documented pricing – score still based on the old rate of 5.5%, re-assessment pending.

2 Digital purchase

17/20
Points
The application runs entirely online: enter personal details, details of the rental property and the deposit amount, followed by the credit check. By its own account, Deutsche Kautionskasse checks every tenant before issuing the guarantee – in particular creditworthiness. After a successful digital contract conclusion, you receive confirmation of the Moneyfix® rent deposit immediately. On speed, the provider is therefore on the level of the instant providers DepositDirect and heysafe and clearly ahead of providers with a 24-hour check. A special route is purchase through your house bank: because Moneyfix is offered as a partner product of many Sparkassen, the contract can also be concluded in the branch with personal advice. For tenants who do not want a purely online purchase, that is a real advantage over the insurtech competitors. Scoring (17/20): Fast, fully digital purchase with instant confirmation, supplemented by the optional route via the Sparkasse branch. Deduction because there is no app of its own for administration.

3 Scope of benefits

14/20
Points
The Moneyfix® rent deposit is a classic rent deposit guarantee that replaces the cash deposit under section 551 of the German Civil Code (BGB). As an underwriting agent (Assekuradeur), Deutsche Kautionskasse works with large insurers such as Allianz and ERGO; the guarantee is possible up to a deposit amount of €50,000. It is a guarantee payable on first demand (Bürgschaft auf erstes Anfordern). This means: the guarantor pays up to the agreed amount without a substantive check if the landlord draws on the deposit. For the landlord that is maximally convenient; for the tenant it is a disadvantage – unlike at Baloise, there is no multi-week objection period in which you can examine the claim. If the insurer pays the landlord, the amount is then reclaimed from the tenant. The guarantee is therefore a liquidity aid, not an assumption of costs. There is no tenant protection or legal advice as at kautionsfrei.de. Anyone who wants legal protection in disputes over cosmetic repairs or service charges needs separate legal expenses insurance. Scoring (14/20): Very strong creditworthiness of the guarantor and therefore high landlord acceptance. Deduction for the missing tenant protection and for the guarantee payable on first demand without an objection period, which puts the tenant in a worse position than at Baloise.

4 Cancellation & flexibility

16/18
Points
The Moneyfix® rent deposit does not expire after a fixed time and has neither a minimum term nor a notice period. It ends as soon as the original guarantee certificate is returned to Deutsche Kautionskasse – usually by the landlord after you move out. The provider is thereby significantly more flexible than kautionsfrei.de, where cancellation is possible only annually, and on a par with the comparison providers DepositDirect, heysafe and kautel (a rent-deposit intermediary from Cologne). Particularly with short tenancies, sublets or a short-notice move for work, that is worth real money. As with all guarantee providers, the actual end of the contract depends on the landlord's cooperation: as long as the original certificate does not come back, the premium keeps running. You should therefore actively remind the landlord to return it after the deposit statement. Scoring (16/18): No minimum term, no notice period – full flexibility. A small deduction because the end of the contract effectively depends on the landlord returning the original certificate.

5 Service & support

9/12
Points
Deutsche Kautionskasse AG is based in Starnberg near Munich and has specialised in rent deposits since 2008 – one of the longest track records in the field. The provider can be reached by telephone and email; through the Sparkassen partnership, many customers also have advice at their own branch. The provider points to several awards, including a repeated top rating from FOCUS MONEY and first place in a customer survey by ntv and DISQ. These statements come from its own ratings page and should be put in context accordingly. On independent consumer portals the picture is more mixed – alongside satisfied customers there is criticism, mostly about the price or about the claim for reimbursement after the guarantee has been drawn on. We do not have a robust, broadly based Trustpilot or Google rating, so we deliberately show no star rating here. Scoring (9/12): Long-standing market presence, telephone support and the additional branch route via the Sparkassen speak in the provider's favour. Deduction because the awards are mostly self-reported and independent reviews are inconsistent.
