Joe Broker is a purely app-based neobroker from Düsseldorf launched in 2025, backed by TARGOBANK; the depot and settlement account are held at Baader Bank. Customers place their orders themselves in the app, trading via gettex, Xetra, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf as well as off-exchange with premium partners. We rated it under the depot methodology: depot management, trading costs, savings plan offer, product range, interest and extras, usability, and customer service and security.

Highlights of our Joe Broker review

  • Joe Broker scores 53 out of 100 points in our rating.
  • Depot management, custody, setting limits and order changes are free, and an order via gettex costs a flat €1.
  • Savings plans on products from the premium partners are completely free from a €1 instalment.
  • By its own statement, the ETF offer is limited to products from the issuer Amundi, and the provider does not give specific numbers.

1 Depot fee

20/20
Points
Joe Broker puts it unambiguously in its own FAQ: the depot is free – no depot fees, no negative interest, no minimum investment. The price and service list that applies to Joe Broker customers, differing from the Baader Bank terms, also lists no charge for depot management. There are likewise no fees for the custody of securities, nor for dividend postings at home and abroad. A separate current account at another bank is not needed. On signing up in the app, new customers receive their own settlement account at the custodian bank, with no minimum payment. A SEPA reference account is a requirement for signing up, but an existing account is enough; the provider does not require an additional paid account. Scoring (20/20): The unconditionally free depot management with no minimum investment earns the full 15 points. Because the settlement account comes with the depot and no additional current account is needed, we award the full 5 points here too.

2 Trading costs

23/25
Points
Joe Broker charges no order commission; only a settlement fee is billed. Via the main trading venue gettex, an order on shares, ETFs, funds and bonds costs a flat €1.00 regardless of volume. A €500 one-off investment therefore costs exactly €1 there. Derivatives via gettex cost €4.90, and off-exchange orders in certificates and warrants with the premium partners again €1.00. Setting up limits and changing or cancelling orders is free of charge; written orders, by contrast, cost €30. For savings plans, the price list distinguishes two cases: savings plans in securities of the premium partners cost €0.00 from a €1.00 instalment, and all other savings plans €0.50 per execution. Since, according to the provider, the ETF offer consists of Amundi products and Joe Broker expressly names the cooperation with Amundi as the basis for particularly attractive savings plan terms, a €400 ETF savings plan instalment is free. When the accumulated units are sold, however, a settlement fee of at least €1 applies depending on the trading venue. Trading via Xetra is possible and specifically listed in the price list: €2.90 plus 0.01 percent of the order volume, with a minimum of €1.50. The other domestic exchanges Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf cost €4.90 plus the exchange's third-party costs. Trading is possible every exchange day from 7:15 am to 11:15 pm. Scoring (23/25): The free €400 ETF savings plan with the premium partners earns the full 12 points. For the €500 one-off investment at €1.00 via gettex we award 8 out of 10 points (the up-to-€1 level); the full score requires a free order. The expressly possible Xetra order earns the full 3 points.

3 Savings plan offer

5/20
Points
Joe Broker offers savings plans on both ETFs and shares, executed on the 1st and 15th of the month within gettex trading hours of 8 am to 10 pm. Fractions are possible and entitled to dividends, and everything is set up, changed and ended in the app. The minimum instalment is exceptionally low: the price list expressly states an instalment from €1.00 for savings plans with the premium partners. The provider is silent on quantity. Neither on the website nor in the FAQ nor in the price and service list does Joe Broker give a number of ETFs eligible for savings plans or of free ETF savings plans. The only reliable statement on the ETF universe is that a large number of ETFs from the issuer Amundi are currently offered. A single issuer does not supply 500 different ETFs in German distribution, and since Joe Broker does not state the number itself, we cannot regard the lowest points level of our methodology as reached. We deliberately did not use figures from comparison portals that give much higher numbers, because they contradict the provider's own presentation. The restriction to one issuer is the real drawback of the offer. Anyone who saves into a particular index from iShares, Vanguard, Xtrackers or SPDR, or wants to continue an existing ETF portfolio one-to-one, cannot do so at Joe Broker. Scoring (5/20): For the number of ETF savings plans we award 0 out of 8 points, because the provider publishes no number and the universe is restricted to one issuer. For the number of free ETF savings plans, 0 out of 7 points applies for the same reason – the savings plans are free, but the quantity cannot be verified. The minimum savings rate from €1 earns the full 5 points.

4 Product range

2/15
Points
According to the provider, shares, ETFs, funds, bonds and derivatives are tradable. For shares, Joe Broker speaks of thousands of stocks from the DAX to international values from Europe, the USA and Asia, without giving a number. Bonds are listed in the price list as a separate category with €1.00 transaction costs via gettex. Derivatives come from the partners JP Morgan and Société Générale and include warrants, knock-out products and factor certificates on shares, indices and commodities. Cryptocurrencies cannot be traded directly; the FAQ refers to exchange-traded products on this subject. The ETF offer remains restricted to Amundi. For two of the three sub-criteria in this chapter, the necessary evidence is therefore missing: Joe Broker publishes a verifiable figure neither for the number of tradable ETFs nor for the number of tradable shares, and the wording "thousands of shares" cannot be assigned to the methodology level of 2,500 and above. Scoring (2/15): For tradable ETFs we award 0 out of 6 points, because no number is published and the offer is limited to one issuer. For tradable shares there are 0 out of 6 points, as the statement "thousands" cannot be assigned to a points level; this rating is based on the missing public information, not on a proven small offer. Because two of the three asset classes checked, derivatives and bonds, are tradable but crypto is not, we award 2 out of 3 points.

5 Interest & extras

0/8
Points
Joe Broker gives no information on credit interest on the settlement account. The FAQ merely assures that no negative interest is charged; a credit interest rate is stated neither on the website nor in the price and service list. We could not verify an interest rate of at least 1 percent, the level from which our methodology awards points, on the provider's site. The broker does not advertise a new-customer bonus either. We found no reward for opening a depot, for a depot transfer or for the first savings plan execution. The extras that remain are key figures and analyst estimates from FactSet in the security profile, an analysis view for the portfolio and a tax overview with exemption order and loss offset pots – useful, but not relevant for points under this methodology. Scoring (0/8): Because no credit interest of at least 1 percent can be verified, we award 0 out of 5 points. As no new-customer bonus is advertised, there are also 0 out of 3 points here. The first rating is expressly based on a missing public statement.

6 Usability

3/8
Points
Joe Broker is built consistently as an app broker: depot opening, identification, order placement, order manager, mailbox, documents and tax data all run entirely through the app. The requirement is an iPhone with iOS 17.0 or later or an Android smartphone with version 7.1 or later. The provider does not offer a web interface for trading, which is a real disadvantage for users who like a large screen. The app is available on both major platforms, but the ratings are below the threshold for the full score: on the App Store it stands at around 3.9 stars from about 79 reviews, and on Google Play at 3.6 stars (as of 09/2026). For a provider launched in 2025 that is not an outlier, but it does not reach the required 4.5 stars. Joe Broker does not document free real-time prices. On the portfolio display it says only that the latest bid prices are used during trading hours and the latest closing prices outside them; at the same time, the FAQ expressly warns that the actual execution price on market orders can differ significantly from the displayed price. Stated, free real-time price coverage is therefore not available. Scoring (3/8): For the app available on iOS and Android with ratings below 4.5 stars we award 3 out of 5 points. For free real-time prices there are 0 out of 3 points, because the provider does not state such coverage.

7 Customer service & security

0/4
Points
For support, Joe Broker relies exclusively on written channels. The FAQ refers questions to the Profile and Support area in the app, account blocks to an email address and complaints to TARGOBANK's complaints management in Duisburg, by email or post. The provider does not publish a customer service phone number anywhere on its website, FAQ or price and service list. Anyone who wants to reach someone quickly about a live order has no way of phoning. On security, things look much better. The depot and settlement account are held at Baader Bank, balances in the settlement account are legally protected up to €100,000, and securities remain the customer's property and can be reclaimed or transferred in an insolvency. Access is secured with two-factor authentication and device linking. For German settlement, flat-rate withholding tax (Abgeltungsteuer), solidarity surcharge, church tax and the advance lump sum (Vorabpauschale) are calculated and paid automatically; the exemption order (Freistellungsauftrag) and loss offset pots can be viewed in the app. The ombudsman of the private banks is responsible for complaints. Scoring (0/4): Because Joe Broker offers no telephone customer service and does not state a service phone number on its own site, we award 0 out of 4 points. Written support in the app and by email is not covered by this criterion.

Conclusion: Joe Broker review

53/100
Satisfactory (3.4)

Joe Broker delivers almost everything you would expect from a neobroker on costs: free depot management, €1 per order, free savings plans from a €1 instalment and Xetra as an alternative to gettex. Under the depot methodology, the provider nevertheless only reaches the middle of the field with 53 out of 100 points, because the ETF universe is limited to a single issuer, the provider publishes no reliable figures on ETFs, shares and savings plans, the settlement account pays no interest and telephone customer service is missing entirely. For price-conscious beginners who are happy with Amundi ETFs and purely app-based operation, the offer is attractive; anyone who needs a broad ETF universe or a contact person on the phone should keep looking.
