FastBill is one of the oldest cloud accounting providers in Germany. In our review, we examine whether experience pays off.

Highlights of our FastBill review

  • FastBill scores 82/100 points in our review – solid with experience.
  • More than 10 years of experience in the market.
  • Automatic receipt capture via app.
  • Strong DATEV integration.

1 Features (25/30 points)

25/30
Points
FastBill is among the most feature-rich cloud accounting solutions on the German market. Besides classic invoicing and cash-basis profit calculation (EÜR), FastBill offers sophisticated banking integration: account transactions are imported automatically and matched with invoices – ideal for managing open items. Automatic receipt capture via app works reliably and correctly recognises most standard receipts. E-invoices in XRechnung and ZUGFeRD format are included on all plans – a plus over competitors that charge extra for this. The DATEV export is seamlessly integrated and enables smooth collaboration with your tax adviser. Scoring (25/30): A strong feature package with particularly good banking integration and DATEV connection. A deduction only because the AI recognition does not quite reach the level of sevDesk.

2 Usability (20/25 points)

20/25
Points
FastBill's user interface is functional and clear, but shows its age. While competitors such as sevDesk or Lexware Office rely on modern, minimalist designs, FastBill in places still looks like a classic application from the 2010s. That is not a serious problem – all functions are quickly accessible and navigation is logically structured. However, modern features such as drag and drop or context-sensitive shortcuts that would speed up the workflow are missing. The mobile app is functional but is also no longer state of the art compared with newer competitors. Scoring (20/25): Solid usability that works reliably. Points deducted for the look, which is no longer up to date, and the lack of modern UX patterns.

3 Pricing (19/25 points)

19/25
Points
In terms of price, FastBill positions itself in the middle to upper segment. The Solo plan starts at €14.99 a month – more expensive than Papierkram (€8) or Lexware Office (€9.90), but with more included features such as banking integration and e-invoices. The Team plan at €39.99/month enables collaboration with employees and access for your tax adviser. With annual payment there is a 20% discount. A free 14-day trial lets you try out all functions. A permanently free plan like Papierkram's is unfortunately missing. Scoring (19/25): Fair value for money for the range of features offered. For price-conscious freelancers there are cheaper alternatives.

4 Support (16/20 points)

16/20
Points
FastBill's customer support is one of the better ones on the market. Besides email support, FastBill also offers telephone advice – a service that many cloud accounting providers abandoned long ago. The hotline is available on working days from 9am to 6pm. Response times are good: emails are usually answered within a few hours, and waiting times on the phone are acceptable. The knowledge base is comprehensive, and webinars explain the functions in a practical way. The only criticism: a live chat or 24/7 support is missing. Scoring (16/20): Above-average support with a genuine telephone service. Full marks are only given for provider-wide premium support with chat.
