CleverReach is the first choice for German companies that do not want to leave GDPR compliance (the EU data protection regulation, DSGVO in German) to chance. Founded in 2007 in Rastede (Lower Saxony), the company, by its own account, stores data exclusively on servers in Germany and the EU, offers a pre-filled data processing agreement and implements double opt-in as standard. In our 100-point rating we examine whether CleverReach convinces on features and value for money as well as on data protection.

Highlights of our CleverReach review

  • CleverReach scores 88/100 points in our rating – our GDPR tip.
  • Servers in Germany and the EU – a strong GDPR position.
  • Free Lite plan: 250 recipients, 1,000 emails a month.
  • More than 100 responsive email templates with a drag-and-drop editor.

1 Features & automation

26/32
Points
CleverReach offers a solid drag-and-drop editor with more than 100 responsive templates. The editor is thoroughly solid, if not quite as modern as at Brevo or Mailchimp. HTML editing is possible for advanced users, and the brand design feature automatically picks up colours and logo from your own website. Marketing automation is one of the strengths – although Lite and Basic include only one automation, with unlimited automations from Pro. THEA (the automation builder) allows multi-step workflows with triggers such as sign-up, click, purchase or birthday. Automated follow-up series, abandoned-cart emails (with Shopify/WooCommerce integration) and lead scoring are available. Segmentation is by tags, recipient fields and behavioural characteristics. A/B testing, scheduled sending and the click heatmap come from the Pro plan. The reporting functions are solid: open rates, click rates, bounce rates and a deliverability dashboard show which content works. Scoring (26/32): Strong automation with THEA, a solid editor and good segmentation. Deductions for the somewhat dated editor compared with more modern competitors and the less sophisticated lead scoring.

2 Deliverability & email infrastructure

16/18
Points
CleverReach places great value on deliverability: a deliverability dashboard shows bounces and unsubscribes, and the Enterprise plan also includes design and spam tests each month. kosten.org does not carry out its own deliverability measurements. SPF, DKIM and DMARC (email authentication standards) can be configured, and CleverReach provides instructions for DNS set-up. For high-volume senders there is the Enterprise plan (from €499 a month for 250,000 emails) or individual quotes. Automatic bounce handling and spam score checks before sending help keep deliverability high in the long term. The list hygiene assistant identifies inactive contacts and recommends cleaning them out. Scoring (16/18): Good deliverability tools with servers in Germany/the EU and full authentication support. A slight deduction because spam tests are only included in the Enterprise plan.

3 GDPR & data protection

16/16
Points
CleverReach has a very strong GDPR position: according to the provider, data is stored exclusively on servers in Germany and the EU, a pre-filled data processing agreement (DPA, known in German as AV-Vertrag) can be concluded in a few clicks, and double opt-in is preset as standard – not as an option you have to activate first. The legal notice (Impressum) and mandatory information in every email are inserted automatically, based on the company data you have stored. Unsubscribe links are legally compliant and one-click. Consent management records when and how each contact gave consent – documented and verifiable. CleverReach offers German-language support for all data protection questions. For sectors with heightened data protection requirements (health, finance, law), CleverReach is therefore a very obvious choice. Scoring (16/16): Full marks for GDPR compliance. Servers in Germany/the EU, double opt-in as standard and a pre-filled data processing agreement.

4 Integrations & ease of use

16/20
Points
CleverReach offers integrations with the most important platforms: Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, WordPress, Salesforce and, via Zapier, with hundreds of other tools. The REST API is well documented and allows custom connections. Webhooks for real-time events (subscribe, unsubscribe, bounce) are available. The user interface is entirely in German and logically structured. Onboarding guides newcomers through set-up step by step. The learning curve is moderate – experienced marketers find their way around immediately, while beginners need 1-2 hours for the basics. Reporting includes real-time statistics, geotracking (opens by region), device analysis and comparisons between campaigns. Revenue tracking is possible via the shop integrations but not as seamless as with specialised e-commerce tools. Scoring (16/20): Good integrations, a German interface and solid reporting. Deductions for fewer integrations than Mailchimp and the lack of native revenue tracking.

5 Price & plans

14/14
Points
CleverReach offers a permanently free Lite plan for 250 recipients and 1,000 emails a month (including one automation) – ideal for trying it out. The paid plans (as of October 2026, according to cleverreach.com, plus VAT, for business customers only) are charged by number of recipients, with unlimited sending: Basic costs from €15 a month for 500 recipients, €20 for 1,000 and goes up to 5,000 recipients (2,500 recipients: €39). Pro, with A/B tests, scheduled sending and unlimited automations, starts at €18; 10,000 recipients on the Pro plan cost €129. Enterprise starts at €499 a month for 250,000 emails. With annual upfront payment the price falls by 10%. Compared with Brevo (from €7 a month) or Mailchimp (from €11.77 a month), CleverReach is more expensive for large lists – the premium is explained by German data hosting and German-language support. Scoring (14/14): A good free entry, transparent prices and fair tiering. Note that Basic includes only one automation and no A/B tests.

Conclusion: CleverReach review

88/100
Very good (1.6)

With 88 out of 100 points, CleverReach is our GDPR tip: for German companies that do not want to compromise on legal certainty, it is a very good choice. Servers in Germany/the EU, a pre-filled data processing agreement and double opt-in as standard are convincing; entry is free (Lite), and Basic costs from €15 net a month.
