About Solidar

SOLIDAR Versicherungsgemeinschaft Sterbegeldversicherung VVaG, based in Bochum, was founded in 1922 by employees of the Bochumer Verein as a company death benefit scheme and, after the merger with Friedrich Krupp, was for a time called Sterbekasse Fried. Krupp Hüttenwerke. In 1986 the fund was opened to anyone outside the group, and in 1988 it received its present name. As a mutual insurance association (Versicherungsverein auf Gegenseitigkeit, VVaG), SOLIDAR belongs to its members; surpluses therefore benefit the policyholders. The company is subject to insurance supervision by BaFin (the German financial regulator) and offers exclusively funeral cover insurance (Sterbegeldversicherung) for funeral provision. By its own account, around 85,000 people are insured.
