About Interhyp

Interhyp AG, based in Munich, was founded in 1999 by Robert Haselsteiner and Marcus Wolsdorf and, by its own account, is now the largest broker of private mortgages in Germany. Since its takeover by ING-DiBa in 2008 it has belonged to the Dutch ING Groep, but it still operates in the market as an independent brand and arranges loans from several hundred banks, Sparkassen, building societies and insurers. Interhyp is not a bank but a property loan broker (Immobiliardarlehensvermittler) with a permit under section 34i of the Trade Regulation Act (GewO); supervision lies with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) for Munich and Upper Bavaria or the competent trade authority, not with BaFin (the German financial regulator). There is consequently no deposit protection (Einlagensicherung) – Interhyp does not accept customer funds, and the loan contract is always concluded directly with the lending bank. Interhyp is paid by commission from the lenders; advice is free for borrowers. The provider is mainly of interest to buyers and self-builders who want to compare a wide range of offers and who would like personal advice at one of the nationwide branches or by video.
