About GVV Direkt
GVV Direktversicherung AG, based in Cologne, is the retail arm of GVV Versicherungen. Its share capital is held 100 percent by GVV Kommunalversicherung VVaG, which was founded in 1911 by Rhineland-Westphalian municipalities as a municipal insurer. The retail business has existed since 1989 and was originally aimed at employees and elected representatives of cities, municipalities, municipal enterprises, savings banks and volunteer fire brigades, but is now open to everyone. It sells directly and without a field sales force of its own, which is reflected in comparatively low premiums. The offer includes personal liability, home contents, buildings, dog owner's liability, accident and motor insurance. As a German insurance stock corporation, GVV Direkt is subject to insurance supervision by BaFin (the German financial regulator).
