About GEV Grundeigentümer
GRUNDEIGENTÜMER-VERSICHERUNG VVaG, GEV for short, was founded in Hamburg in 1891 by the Grundeigentümer-Verein in Hamburg von 1832 (the Hamburg property owners' association) as the Haftpflichtverband Hamburger Hausbesitzer. As a mutual insurance association (Versicherungsverein auf Gegenseitigkeit, VVaG), it remains independent to this day, belongs to no group and is subject to insurance supervision by BaFin (the German financial regulator). The focus is on risks around property ownership: buildings, home and property owner's liability and water pollution liability. For private customers there is also home contents and personal liability insurance, which can be taken out independently of property ownership. There is no deposit protection (Einlagensicherung), as no bank deposits are taken.
